About EUR/USD
Euro vs US dollar
According to the Bank for International Settlements' Triennial Survey, EUR/USD accounts for more daily turnover than any other currency pair. That depth usually means tight spreads and orderly price action outside major news, which is why it suits both short-term traders and those who hold positions for days.
The pair is a direct read on the relative outlook for the euro area and the United States. When the market expects the Federal Reserve to keep rates higher than the European Central Bank, the dollar tends to strengthen and EUR/USD falls; when the gap is expected to narrow, the euro tends to gain.

What moves it
4 forces that drive EUR/USD
ECB vs Fed policy
The expected interest-rate gap between the ECB and the Fed is the main long-term driver. Both hold eight scheduled policy meetings a year.
US data
Non-farm payrolls, CPI inflation and retail sales often cause the sharpest intraday moves, because they reshape Fed expectations.
Euro-area growth and inflation
Flash HICP inflation, PMI surveys and German indicators such as Ifo and ZEW show how the euro economy is doing.
Risk mood and energy
In global stress the dollar is often in demand. Europe is a large energy importer, so energy price spikes can weigh on the euro.
